How to Estimate Resin Cost Manually

To work through the math by hand:

  1. Get your resin volume in milliliters, including supports, from your slicer's reported total.
  2. Divide by 1,000 and multiply by resin cost per liter to get material cost.
  3. Calculate printer electricity: printer wattage ÷ 1,000 × print time in hours × your electricity rate per kWh.
  4. Calculate curing electricity separately: curing station wattage ÷ 1,000 × post-curing time in hours × the same electricity rate — this is its own line, not part of printer electricity.
  5. Add consumables — a flat estimate for IPA, gloves, and FEP film wear allocated to this print.
  6. Sum everything, then add a waste buffer — multiply the subtotal by (1 + failure waste percent ÷ 100), capped at 30% for the reasons above.
